We are pleased to announce we have successfully commissioned and opened our manufacturing facility in Sawston, Cambridgeshire. The facility is a first-of-a-kind for the production at multi-tonne scale of Immaterial’s proprietary monolithic metal-organic frameworks (m-MOFs). Immaterial has taken the Nobel prize-winning chemistry to a new height with its densified materials, enabling significantly increased (multi x) capture of carbon capture vs traditional powder MOFs. The key differential unlocks an economic transformation to significantly reduce the capture system capital cost vs MOF powders and incumbent technology for carbon capture, amines. Whilst the company is initially focussed on carbon capture, the proprietary densification technology is equally applicable to hydrogen storage, water harvesting and many other applications across indoor air quality and gas separations in chemical and electronics sectors.
The manufacturing facility is a core part of Immaterial’s scaling plan and will supply materials into its carbon capture technology demonstration unit, which will be deployed across hard-to-abate use cases and its planned first-of-a-kind commercial unit. It will demonstrate that m-MOFs can be produced consistently, scaled economically and viably. The manufacturing core competencies expansion will provide Immaterial strategic optionality as its scales its business across the globe.
The manufacturing facility is based in Sawston. Our extended team has been recruited, trained specialist staff, secured environmental permits and operating certificates, completed health and safety reviews, installed and commissioned equipment safely, set up utilities and carried out extensive functional testing to ensure the process is robust and operable. Every one of those steps had to be done right before a single gram of material could be produced. This extraordinary effort, along with our contractors and suppliers, has led to successful commissioning of the facility producing at industrial scale for use in carbon capture.
We would like to thank our staff, our partners and everyone involved in bringing this successful project to life from the lab to an industrial unit scale, with all the effort involved and done safely and to a high very high standard. We would also like to thank our Board and our investors for their commitment and support of our business plan and our customers who are supporting us scale this technology fast so we can bring to market an economically viable and affordable alternative to the status quo amines technology and make carbon capture affordable and sustainable.
